Nick DuBois
Meet the Emmy Award-Winning Animator
who Created Unhappy Hugo
Nicolas “Nick” DuBois spent more than 30 years bringing memorable characters and stories to life. But one of his favorite characters started with a little girl asking her dad for a bedtime story.
Nick began his animation career as an artist before joining the writing team for Steven Spielberg’s Animaniacs, earning an Emmy award and three consecutive nominations for his work on the series.
He went on to write for more than 17 animated television series, including Disney’s Timon & Pumbaa, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and Recess, as well as X-Men: Evolution, Men in Black and The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest. As an artist and designer, Nick also helped create the visual worlds of shows including Animaniacs, Family Guy and American Dad.
After decades of creating stories for some of animation’s most famous characters, Nick is sharing a character of his own with the world. Years ago, Nick invented stories for his daughter about the adventures of an adorably mischievous hippo named Hugo.
Now he is bringing Hugo to life for a new generation of children and their families with the Unhappy Hugo book series. Join the fun to see what adventures Hugo tries next.
